We find ourselves situated on the western flank of the famous Hardknott Pass, known for its status as England's steepest road, boasting a daunting gradient of 30% along with numerous hairpin turns. While standard car navigation systems might suggest this route due to its shorter distance, we strongly advise against it for your journey here. Despite the breath-taking scenery and the historic Hardknott Fort crowning its summit, the road poses considerable challenges. Instead, we recommend a leisurely visit to this remarkable site during your stay.

Important Notes

  • Access via a winding, rugged track and Grade II Doctor Bridge (3 meters wide, steep, with tight turns). Unsuitable for caravans and very long or very low vehicles.

Below are the routes we suggest for your convenience.
